Selfies are phenomenally popular these days. Smartphone makers are hence building devices that are well suited for photographs. The latest is Chinese tech giant Meitu that has introduced a new smartphone with a massive camera set up.
The Meitu T8 is a photography-centric smartphone, with a 21MP camera on the back with an f/2.2 aperture and a 12MP dual pixel sensor on the front with an aperture of f/1.8. They are not for mere amateur pictures as Meitu has equipped the device with advanced tech and features found on DSLR cameras.
Priced at CNY 3,299 ($480), the Android device will be sold on Meitu’s website as well as popular ecommerce platforms Suning and JD.com. As of now, the device is available for consumers in China, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan.
Display, hardware and others
The first to fall under the new T series, the T8 sports a full metallic body and features a 5.2-inch AMOLED Full HD display (1920x1080p resolution). It will be powered by a Deca-core Mediatek X20 (MTK6797) processor paired with 4GB RAM and 128GB storage. Like its predecessors, the T8 will have a circular home button with an embedded fingerprint scanner.
There is a 3,580 mAh battery with fast charging as well. The T8 will run Android 6.0 Marshmallow with custom MEIOS on top.
The Meitu T8’s highlight without any doubt is the camera capabilities. The front facing 12MP cameras for instance employ an AI technology for face recognition and age identification. It also offers autofocus, optical image stabilization and noise-reducing ISP and can record HD videos at 1080p resolution.
